This Weekend's Painting

I had enough time this weekend to work on a portrait of the lovely Mari Cruz. I had been promising to do one for a while and finally got around to it. For ease of transportation I painted it on oil paper, using titanium white, alizarin crimson, mars violet, blue black, titan yellow medium, burnt sienna, burnt umber, viridian, and ultramarine. I was quite careful and drew a grid on the paper and the photo before I began transposing it square by square. Then it was a matter of pulling things together and letting my eye judge the overall composition.

As usual the result was mostly down to the quality of the photo. In total it took me about 20 hours to finish.
